Applied Research Center - Research/Development

Hunter Defense Technologies has long been the world's leading developer and producer of Collective Protection equipment designed to protect military personnel from the extreme dangers of toxic Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) tactical weapons used on the battlefield. Today, there is a growing threat from the proliferation of toxic CBRN weapons for use not only by military personnel but, the potential for use by terrorists' against civilian targets. And, even beyond the threat of terrorism, there is an increasing danger posed by the movement of highly toxic industrial chemicals (TIC) and materials (TIM) over our highways and railroads.

As we move forward, the design and construction of commercial and residential properties in the future, as well as the reconfiguration of existing structures, are going to require provisions for the protection of the inhabitants against the effects of airborne toxins including warfare agents and TIC/TIMs. And, while it might appear that the systems Hunter designed for military applications could be reconfigured to meet the needs of these HLS applications, it is simply not practical in many cases. For example, the collective protection filter media used in products designed for military applications does not have the capability to remove many common industrial TIC/TIM materials.

To this point the commercial marketplace has had scarce resources available for education and evaluation of these requirements. To meet this challenge Hunter established a state-of-the-art research and development group for the purpose of developing the next generation of CBRN collective protection filtration equipment. Located in Edgewood, Maryland, Hunter's Applied Research Center (ARC) is aggressively developing new technologies and products designed for integration into the latest generation of military vehicles and shelters as well as, a full line of products designed specifically for homeland security (HLS) applications.
